Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) responded on Thursday to Micheal Cohen’s guilty plea for lying to congressional investigators over the timing of business dealings for a Trump Tower in Moscow.

While dodging definitively answering whether he’d consider pardoning Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump again expressed sympathy for his former campaign manager, who could spend the rest of his life behind bars after special counsel Robert Mueller dropped the plea deal with Manafort, alleging Manafort lied to the federal investigators.

“It’s very sad what’s happened to Paul, the way he’s been treated, I’ve never seen anybody treated so poorly,” he told reporters.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told reporters that Michael Cohen’s guilty plea “underscores” his belief that “other witnesses were untruthful.”

“But I think Michael Cohen’s guilty plea also underscores the importance of something else. That is we believe other witnesses were untruthful before our committee,” he told reporters Thursday.
