Trump spoke with MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Wednesday morning about the reports of friction between his delegate wrangler Paul Manafort and his campaign manger Corey Lewandowski.

"All we're doing is adding more people," Trump said. "Now, Paul actually gets along very well with Corey. They get along. They have different functions. They are -- the functions are broken up. I brought Paul in because a very, very smart friend of mine, who knew him very well said he is fantastic. Okay?"

Trump was responding to reports that Manafort had been consolidating power in his campaign and that he wanted to shift some authority back to Lewandoski, after Manafort was recorded telling Republican National Committee members that Trump was just projecting an outlandish image. According to Trump, those media reports, rather than the reported shifts in power, were the problem.

"The two guys get along," he said. "The only time they don't is when a phony paper like 'Politico' will write a story that has no bearing in truth, none whatsoever."

Trump doubled down during another Wednesday morning show appearance on "Fox and Friends."

"They get along great, Paul and Corey and the whole group get along great," he said. "It's always a good story, you know, because they write that 'oh, well, they're fighting.' They're really not. I'm telling you, they're not. I'm the only one who knows."
