During a Wednesday night interview with MSNBC's Chris Hayes, Hayes asked King to explain what he meant when he told TPM earlier in the day that he was waiting on the Minnesota Democrat and Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN), the other Muslim congressman, to publicly reject Sharia.

"Which is superior, the Constitution, or Sharia law?" King said he wanted Hayes to ask Ellison. "Sharia law, by their teaching, is superior to everything else."

Ellison was the next guest on Hayes's program. He rejected King's assumption that being American and Muslim weren't compatible, as he had earlier in the day when he spoke with TPM.

"These two value systems do not clash in any way," Ellison said before explaining how his own son was serving in the military. "He is proud to serve his country."

"Muslims are absolutely integrating into the United States," Ellison added. "I just hope that we can try to reach higher ground."'
