The “700 Club” host called Davis a “heroine” for going to jail for her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. According to Robertson, America “was founded as a Christian nation” but the right of Christians like Davis to practice their religion is being impinged upon.
“You go to jail if you believe in God and stand fast for your beliefs against the onslaught of secular humanism and the flood that comes about with it,” Robertson said.
Still, Robertson said that Davis, who is on her fourth marriage, may not be the ideal poster child for the anti-gay-marriage movement.
“Kim Davis is not exactly the champion we’d all want to stand up for our beliefs, but nevertheless she did it and she’s the heroine of the piece,” Robertson said. "There will be many, many others.”
