Reports: NYPD Commissioner Bratton Expected To Announce Resignation

He will be replaced by current Chief of Department James O'Neill, according to the report, which cites unnamed city officials. Bratton will remain in his current role until September, when he will return to the private sector.

Bratton served as commissioner twice: first under former mayor Rudy Giuliani from 1994 until his resignation in 1996, and again when de Blasio named Bratton commissioner in 2013. He also led Boston and Los Angeles' police departments. After riots in London in 2011, according to The New York Times, former Prime Minister David Cameron floated the idea of recruiting Bratton to manage British police forces.
