A pair of county district attorneys have been investigating the two men for months, with help from other agencies, as part of what the Tribune calls a "sweeping probe" looking at the attorney general's office.

Swallow, who succeeded Shurtleff, announced his resignation as state attorney general last November, following a series of investigations that loomed over him during his short tenure in office. While a federal investigation into Swallow dropped, federal agents are still assisting the state district attorneys. The state investigation, led by Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill and Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings has already led to felony charges against an associate of Shurtleff's.

According the newspaper, warrants served as part of the ongoing investigation have indicated that investigators are looking for possible evidence of bribery, obstruction of justice, and misuse of public funds, according to the Tribune. On Monday, agents were seen carrying boxes out of Swallow's home.
