"It's still too early, in my opinion, to endorse a candidate or pick a candidate," he told People.

Gore served as vice president during the two-term administration of Clinton's husband before losing his own bid for the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000.

He sounded a cautious note about making “premature” predictions about how this election season will shake out.

“The election is still a full year away,” Gore told People. “I think I’ll wait to wade into it.”

The former VP also confirmed that he had no interest of entering the race, calling himself a “recovering politician.” This summer, supporters floated both Gore and current Vice President Joe Biden as possible additions to the small Democratic field.

Since leaving office, Gore has devoted himself to raising awareness about climate change, earning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his efforts.
