Reports: FBI Recovers Deleted Hillary Clinton Emails

Bloomberg Politics first reported that investigators recovered both personal and work-related emails Clinton from the private email server she used exclusively during her tenure as secretary of state, citing an anonymous person familiar with the investigation.

Clinton previously said she deleted correspondence she deemed personal from her email account after turning over some 30,000 work-related emails to the State Department. Her attorney, David Kendall, later informed a congressional oversight committee earlier this year that all emails had been deleted from the server.

That prompted breathless speculation that Clinton "wiped" the server clean, making it potentially impossible to recover her deleted correspondence. But an anonymous government official told The New York Times that it wasn't difficult for FBI investigators to retrieve the emails from the private server.

The FBI investigation has been focused on determining whether the so-called "homebrew" server was secure. Clinton herself has not been the target of any investigation.
