Fox Business

The senator was responding to a question by moderator Maria Bartiromo about how he could slash taxes without running up debt and deficits.

“Today, we rolled out a spending plan,” Cruz replied, “$500 billion in specific cuts. Five major agencies that we would eliminate: The IRS, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce, and HUD.”

He encouraged voters to go to his website,, to learn about the full plan, which also involves eliminating the corporate income and payroll taxes. According to the site, the agency he neglected to mention is the Department of Education.

Cruz’s flub recalled the infamous moment during the 2012 presidential campaign when former Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) failed to remember all three federal agencies he would eliminate as president.

After listing the Departments of Education and Commerce, Perry fished around for his third response for a few moments before saying, “I can’t. The third one, I can’t. Sorry. Oops.”
