Despite speculation that Biden might declare his own candidacy on the day of the debate, which the CNN participation rules permitted, he reportedly tuned in from the Vice President's residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington after hosting a high school reunion.
White House spokesperson Josh Earnest also applauded the debate as a success during his daily press briefing, calling it “a keen reminder you can run on things other than appealing to people’s fears and anxieties about the future.”
Earnest insisted that the debate had no influence on Biden’s potential candidacy.
“The dynamic for his decision hasn’t changed,” Earnest said.
In numerous interviews, Biden has maintained that a third presidential bid would be a “family decision.”
